OFFSITE BACKUP CASE STUDYOFFSITE BACKUP CASE STUDY

THE CHALLENGE
A company stores its data onsite. On a trip back from Scotland the company driver decided to take the vehicle home for the night, before settling down in front of the TV. At that moment, he could smell smoke and when he went to investigate he noticed flames were coming from the engine of his van. A wake up call was definitely needed. If this van had caught fire at the company premises, they hold a lot of flammable chemicals and their data would have been destroyed as no data protection is in place.

THE SOLUTION
Send the data via the internet and store it in a safe offsite location. Therefore if hardware at the company’s premises is damaged, they will still have an updated backup waiting to be restored.

THE OUTCOME
Safe and well protected data.

THE CHALLENGE
A local Charity was required to backup files securely in a cost effective solution. Tape backup was far too expensive and as they are located in a very high crime area with high reports of break-ins, and arson attacks it wasn’t the recommended source of backup. If the data happened to get damaged in a fire a tape back up was not going to protect them.

THE SOLUTION
Implement an offsite backup system. Due to it being a charity a discount was applied too!

THE OUTCOME
The charity has now had a safe backup since October 2008 and is yet to experience a loss in data, despite having a bad hardware failure last year.

THE CHALLENGE

A hotel was having internal problems with staff intentionally deleting files from their system and making a general nuisance of themselves.

THE SOLUTION
A CCTV system has since been installed to catch the culprit and offsite backup has been setup.

THE OUTCOME
If files are deleted now, with the offsite backup installed; they can be recovered very easily using user friendly software. A few clicks and the lost files can be restored.
